Strong demand from data centers drives 40% surge in net profit for MCU maker Renesas

Driven by strong demand from the automotive and data center sectors, major microcontroller (MCU) manufacturer Renesas Electronics saw its net profit surge by 40% last quarter. Despite this, the company’s share price failed to gain momentum and instead plummeted today.

As of the close of the morning session on the Japanese stock market on the 29th (10:30 AM Taipei time), Renesas shares had plunged 8.03% to 2,851 yen—a sharp reversal following a year-to-date gain of approximately 33%.

On the 29th, Renesas released its financial results for the most recent quarter (July–September 2024; figures are based on Non-GAAP accounting standards). Consolidated operating profit soared 45.8% to 150.5 billion yen, while consolidated net profit jumped 41.7% to 125 billion yen.

The “Industrial/Infrastructure/IoT” business (also comprising MCUs, SoCs, analog chips, and power semiconductors) experienced a 46.4% surge in revenue to 243.8 billion yen, while operating profit soared 93.2% to 88.3 billion yen.

For the current quarter (October–December 2026), Renesas forecasts consolidated revenue of 454 billion yen (±7.5 billion yen), representing a 29.4% year-on-year increase (±2.1 percentage points).
