The Miami Heat have significantly bolstered their roster this offseason—acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis via trade, and signing Klay Thompson—positioning themselves as a top contender to emerge from the Eastern Conference. In an interview today, Thompson expressed his gratitude to the Heat for giving him another shot at a championship.
Thompson, who already holds four championship rings, spent a stint with the Dallas Mavericks after leaving the Golden State Warriors. However, as the Mavericks shifted their focus toward rebuilding around Cooper Flagg, Thompson found himself sidelined from the playoffs for the past two seasons.
Now, having joined a Heat squad that underwent a major offseason overhaul, Thompson’s championship aspirations have been reignited. “To be honest, I’m incredibly hungry for another championship ring—that’s the reason I’m still playing,” Thompson said. “The Heat have given me the best opportunity to do that. Beyond that, I’m also striving to become a better version of myself here; the Heat’s team culture truly lives up to its reputation.”
Reflecting on his chemistry with new teammates like Antetokounmpo, Thompson noted how deeply impressed he has been. “What stands out most is his dedication and self-discipline—the intensity with which he trains is almost unimaginable. You see him on the court every single day, grinding away and refining even the most fundamental details. It’s a privilege to be his teammate; his mindset is infectious and elevates the competitive intensity of the entire group.”
Antetokounmpo, for his part, shared that the team has already developed strong chemistry during the offseason. “Obviously, we’re going to keep getting better. Tomorrow is just the first game of the season; by the time we reach the 40th game—provided everyone stays healthy—we’re going to be an even better team.”
